Get to know Arrecife.
Arrecife is Lanzarote's capital, but it rewards more than a change of bus. The old maritime centre gathers around the sheltered Charco de San Ginés, where small boats sit below whitewashed streets and waterside terraces. From there you can trace the city's relationship with the Atlantic through the harbour quarter, then walk towards El Reducto for a broad urban beach. This is the island's most useful base for travellers who enjoy an ordinary Canarian city alongside day trips: several interurban routes begin or pass here, while the airport connection changes by day of the week.

Circle Charco de San Ginés
Start with the footpaths around the lagoon and the old fishing quarter. The water, modest boats and low streets give Arrecife a more local rhythm than the purpose-built resorts, and the compact centre makes it easy to pause for food without committing to a long itinerary.

Walk the harbour-facing old town
Continue through the historic waterfront and causeways for changing views across the port and city. Arrecife is also an island entry point for ferries and cruises, but those services keep their own schedules; allow independent time if your day starts or finishes at the port.

Finish at El Reducto
El Reducto places sand and a seafront promenade within the capital itself. It works well as the quieter final part of a city walk, especially when you want a beach hour without travelling to a resort. Check local beach information and conditions when you arrive.

Getting to Arrecife
From Lanzarote Airport, use line 22 on working Monday-to-Friday days or line 23 at weekends. Both official route pages list T1 and T2 and connect with Arrecife. If you are arriving from another island town, open the relevant Arrecife guide and use its current operator timetable rather than assuming every service uses the same city stop.

The waterfront is exposed. Carry water and use the lagoon streets or an indoor stop around the brightest part of the day, then return to the promenade later.

Arrecife has both the bus station and the Intercambiador in published route information. Note the stop named on your chosen timetable before wandering away from the transport hub.

Keep the way home in mind.
For the airport, keep the weekday/weekend distinction: line 22 on working weekdays and line 23 at weekends. Check the latest Intercity page before leaving the waterfront, and leave separate margin for any ferry or cruise departure because the bus and port services are not coordinated here.
