Luggage on Lanzarote's buses: Intercity's rules

Suitcases, hand luggage, pushchairs, bikes and pets on Intercity Lanzarote's buses, as the operator's customer page states them, and what it leaves open.

Your bus, at a glance

Yes, you can take a suitcase on the bus to and from the airport. Intercity Lanzarote's customer page sets the rules: suitcases go in the luggage hold where the bus has one, and a bag carried on board is allowed only if its size takes no space from other passengers and does not disturb them, at the driver's judgement. Your luggage is yours to watch. Pushchairs travel folded in the hold, bicycles and scooters only when the bus has a hold and never inside it, one per person, and dogs and cats ride under conditions the operator sets by weight. Intercity publishes no size or weight limit for a suitcase and no charge for one, so this site prints none.

The practical part

The essentials

  1. Suitcases: the hold, where the bus has one

Intercity's rule is one sentence: put suitcases in the vehicle's luggage compartments, as long as the bus has them. Not every bus does, so on a short urban run be ready to keep the case beside you and out of the aisle. The operator's conduct rules add two words: watch your luggage.

  2. Hand luggage: the driver decides

Bags carried on board are allowed only when, by their size, they can be carried without taking space other passengers could use and without disturbing them, in the driver's judgement. A rucksack on your lap is the safe shape; a trolley case across the aisle is the one that gets refused.

  3. Pushchairs, bikes and scooters

A pushchair goes folded in the hold; on a bus without a hold it may ride unfolded on the platform, secured, on urban runs only, and it always gives way to a wheelchair. Intercity's passenger questions allow a bicycle or scooter (a personal mobility vehicle) only when the bus has a hold, never inside the bus, never locked or tied to the vehicle, one per person; its rules of use add that bikes and scooters go in the hold folded. The page names no line as having a hold, so ask about your departure, not the line.

  4. Pets

Only dogs and cats, at the owner's responsibility: under ten kilograms in a carrier, over ten kilograms muzzled and on a lead for the whole ride, one animal per person and two per bus at most. Guide and assistance dogs travel without a carrier beside the person they assist and have priority over any other animal.

What the operator does not say

No size, weight or number limit for suitcases, no charge for a bag, no rule for surfboards or golf bags, and no list of which buses have a hold. Where the page is silent this site is silent too: ask Intercity before you travel (+34 928 811 522, [email protected], or the desks at Arrecife bus station, the Intercambiador and Playa Blanca bus station) rather than trust a forum.

At the airport, with bags

The airport lines (22 and 23 to Arrecife, 161 south to Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca) carry airport passengers every day, so a suitcase is the normal load; the hold rule applies. Count baggage reclaim before the bus you aim for, not from touchdown. Aena's barrier-free assistance takes a passenger through reclaim to a meeting point and is requested at least 48 hours ahead; it does not load your bags onto the bus.

Lost something on the bus?

Intercity's contact page is the route for lost property, with the information line and the customer e-mail; name the line, the date and the departure you were on, which the boards here help you reconstruct. This site holds no lost property and cannot chase it for you.

Asked and answered

Questions people ask

Can I take a suitcase on the Lanzarote airport bus?

Yes. Intercity's rule is to put suitcases in the luggage hold when the bus has one, and the airport lines carry suitcases every day. There is no published size or weight limit and no published charge; keep the case out of the aisle and keep an eye on it.

Can I take a bike or a scooter on the bus?

Only when the bus has a hold, and only in it: Intercity's passenger questions say never inside the bus, never tied or locked to the vehicle, and one per person, and its rules of use say bikes and scooters go in the hold folded. On a bus without a hold there is no place for one by the operator's own page.

The other half of the plan

And the way back.

On the way home the same rules apply, and the hold is loaded at the stop: be there early enough to stow a case before boarding, keep the ticket, and request your stop in advance so you are not unloading a hold at the wrong one.
