Get to know Timanfaya National Park.
Timanfaya is the landscape that explains Lanzarote at first sight: ash plains, rust-red cones and lava from the eruptions of 1730–1736 and 1824, protected because the ground is both fragile and geologically exceptional. A visit to Montañas del Fuego starts at the Taro de Entrada on the LZ-67. After admission, the controlled Ruta de los Volcanes is travelled on the park's own bus from Islote de Hilario. That vehicle is part of the attraction and is not an Intercity public bus. The distinction matters when planning: no cited public route reaches the entrance, so arrange a car, taxi or organised excursion before setting out.

What makes it worth the visit.
Ride the controlled Volcano Route
The park bus follows the Ruta de los Volcanes through terrain that visitors cannot explore freely. Admission at Montañas del Fuego includes this internal ride and the geothermal demonstrations. Follow staff instructions and keep the bus journey distinct from transport to the entrance.
Read the landscape at Islote de Hilario
At the visitor area, demonstrations reveal heat close beneath the surface and César Manrique's El Diablo building sits within the dark terrain. Facilities and access conditions can change, so check the official visitor page before committing to the day.
Give the geology some context
The separate visitor centre at Mancha Blanca explains the eruptions and the protected landscape through exhibitions and audiovisual material. It is a different facility from the Montañas del Fuego entrance; decide which stop belongs in your transport plan instead of treating 'Timanfaya' as one address.

Getting to Timanfaya National Park
There is no verified Intercity route to the Montañas del Fuego entrance. Line 60 serves Yaiza on the Arrecife–Playa Blanca corridor, but Yaiza is only a possible planning base and not the park entrance; there is no onward public-bus promise here. Use independently arranged road transport or the verified island-highlights excursion and follow its confirmed pickup instructions.

Do not confuse the two buses
The guagua included with park admission only runs the controlled route after entry. It is not part of Lanzarote's public network and cannot be used to reach or leave the park.
Check access before the drive
Opening arrangements, admission and queues can change. Review the official park information, carry water and sun protection, and do not leave marked visitor areas or treat protected lava as open hiking terrain.
Before you settle in
Keep the way home in mind.
Confirm your return transport before entering the park. If an excursion provides collection, use the provider's named point and time. If you independently use line 60 at Yaiza on another leg, check that timetable separately; neither the park's internal bus nor a visit ticket returns you to Yaiza or a resort.
